Moisturisers, cleansers, anti-ageing products, body washes, exfoliators, face masks… all those beauty products can make for a strain on the bank balance. But there’s one product that is low cost, completely natural, and very, very versatile.

Salt. Yes, salt. Sea salt and Himalayan salts both have a wealth of minerals that play important parts in your body’s function, health and cellular communication. From face masks to body scrubs to salt therapy, there is a whole catalogue of ways that salt can feature in your beauty routine. Here’s just a few:

Using Salt for Beauty Benefits

1. Mask yourself.

Salt and honey both have properties that can work wonders for the skin. Mix two teaspoons of finely ground sea salt with four teaspoons of raw honey, and spread evenly across the face (avoiding the eye area). Leave for up to 15 minutes. Rinse with a facecloth soaked in warm water, and then enjoy the natural glow.

2. Bath time.

Epsom salts are rich in magnesium, which is a clever little mineral that assists in muscle and nerve function, regulating blood sugar and blood pressure levels, and making protein, bone and DNA. A relaxing soak in a hot bath with a few scoops of Epsom salt can raise your magnesium levels, which often drop from stress. View our range of bath products so your muscles and your skin will reap the benefits.

3. Scrub, scrub, scrub.

Mix some natural salt with your favourite body wash or skin cleanser to create a great exfoliant for your skin. Use it in the show so you can wash it off easily, and your skin will be soft and smooth. Alternatively, try mixing a couple of teaspoons of salt with a scoop of coconut oil, to make your very own natural home scrub. Silky soft at a low cost.

4. Salt therapy.

If you want to give your body and your skin an extra treat, book yourself in for some salt therapy sessions. Sit in a massage chair in a relaxing environment and breathe in the pharmaceutical-grade salt. During a salt therapy session, micro particles of dry salt are dispersed into the air. Dry salt is highly absorbent, so the small particles can permeate into your skin’s epidermis and absorb oils which contribute to acne, as well as reduce the frequency of eczema outbreaks and other conditions.

Salt has natural antibacterial properties that can thwart the development of bacteria and help normalise your skin’s pH level.

5. Bye bye flaky scalp.

Have a bit of dandruff? Mix a couple of teaspoons of natural salt into your shampoo, and then get to work in the shower. Give your scalp a thorough massage all over. You can even try it without the shampoo, massaging the salt straight into your scalp. Once you’ve washed the salt out thoroughly, shampoo and condition as usual. Instant results.

Go ahead and get creative with natural salts. Your skin will be so smooth, you’ll look like a grain of salt yourself!

Put on your spectacles and your thinking caps, people. You may be about to learn something.

Epsom salt is NOT ACTUALLY A SALT.

That’s right. That white salt stuff that you’ve heard so much about is not a salt at all. It’s magnesium sulfate, with no sodium. But nevertheless, it’s amazing stuff.

Long known as a natural remedy, Epsom salt is named for a salt spring in Surrey, England. Both magnesium and sulfate can be absorbed through the skin, meaning a warm bath in dissolved Epsom salt can bring a wealth of benefits.

Why we love Epsom salt:

The magnificent magnesium.

Magnesium is a clever little mineral that gets an A+ for all of its hard work, like assisting in muscle and nerve function, regulating blood sugar and blood pressure levels, and making protein, bone and DNA. And when you’re stressed, your magnesium levels can drop. A soak in a hot bath with a few scoops of Epsom salt can not only raise your magnesium levels, it can wash your stress away.

Relieves aches and pains.

Epsom salt can help relieve pain and inflammation in tired joints. Are your feet a bit achey and sad? Fill a tub with warm water and Epsom salt and give them a well-deserved break. Then give them a good rub, paint your toenails a pretty shade, and you’ll feel like a brand new person.

Better bowel function.

Believe it or not, a couple of teaspoons of Epsom salt can help relieve constipation and assist bowel function. Knock back 2-4 teaspoons dissolved in water and you should have relief in 30 min to six hours. However: always talk to your doctor first. They LOVE a good chat about your bowel movements.

Beautiful, glowing skin.

A natural, low-priced exfoliant? Yes please. Mix a bit of Epsom salt into your favourite skin cleanser to give yourself an effective face scrub, massaging it into your skin in circular motions (and then rinsing clean). Or mix it with a body wash and use it as an exfoliating body scrub in the shower. Your skin will be softer than a kitten on a fairy floss cloud.

So even though its name is a lie (maybe ‘Epsom Magnesium Sulfate’ was too much of a mouthful), get yourself a dose of Epsom salt soon. You’ll be glowing with health.

If you interested in finding therapeutic salts that can relieve you from pain in your joints and muscles , click here to buy from our range of therapeutic salts. Your muscles, skin and joints will love you for it.

Okay. Hard thinking time is over. You can remove your cap now.

Eczema is a tricky business. Flares, weeps, triggers. Fighting the urge to scratch your skin off. Feeling sensitive about the visible areas. There’s nothing fun about it.

So here’s an idea; try salt therapy.

Have you ever noticed the positive effect that the ocean has on your skin? Salt therapy is like the ocean, times a trillion to the power of infinity (do not challenge our maths skills, please).

Firstly, what is salt therapy? All you have to do it sit in a comfy massage chair in a relaxing room, while pharmaceutical dry salt is pumped through the air. That’s it. Sit and breathe, maybe even nap. For clients with severe skin conditions such as eczema, a private room can be booked so they can strip off and expose as much skin to the dry salt as possible.

How does it help? The salt may help reduce red, flakey, irritated skin, while also balancing the Ph levels of the skin.

Just ask the satisfied clients. “Having suffered with Eczema for over 30 years, my skin is always dry and irritated,” says Rachel from Hampton in Victoria. “After having salt sessions twice a week, my skin is now the best it has ever been. I recommend salt therapy to everyone I speak to.”

Eczema sufferers, pop into your nearest Salts Of The Earth centre and discuss a management plan today. Your skin will thank you.

There’s whispering on the streets of Australia. Excited whispering. Two words, being passed along like a well-kept secret. Salt therapy.

You might have seen it online, or caught a glimpse on one of the morning shows. Perhaps you’ve had a friend with newly-glowing skin telling you about its’ benefits. Or perhaps you haven’t heard the word at all. You better catch up, then.

Everyone is talking about Salts of the Earth, the salt therapy centres popping up in metropolitan areas around Australia. From Megan Gale to Luke Hodge, Australia’s finest are hooked.

Before we show you just what people are saying about salt therapy, here’s a quick run-down of the process. You sit in a reclining massage chair in a quiet, relaxing room for 45 minutes, while breathing in the pharmaceutical grade salt being pumped through the air.

That’s it.

The properties of the natural salt bring a wealth of health benefits, from clearer sinuses to better breathing, from glowing skin to improved sleep.

So what are people saying about it?

Erin Nicholson, a client on the Intensive Management Plan, says “for 5 weeks I was struggling with sinusitis. I was blocked up, had pain in my ears, nose and throat. I tried salt therapy for 5 days straight and I cannot believe the change. My pressure headaches have gone and no pain in my ears. I can breathe better and I’m sleeping much better as well! I loved the salt therapy and would definitely recommend having a go at it.”

And don’t forget about the kiddies.

“My daughter Jasmine, who is 8 years old, has had a consistent cough for about 9 months now.” Says Meegan George on a Child Management Plan. “I turned to Salts of the Earth as Jasmine mentioned to me that she had a salt lamp in her school room that helped minimize her cough. The results have been amazing. After Jasmine’s first session and a salt lamp in her room I saw a marked reduction in her coughing, she was sleeping better and felt better too! I also love going with Jasmine to Salts of the Earth as I find the sessions very relaxing – a great treat for us busy parents!! The staff are wonderful and very welcoming, especially to children. I would recommend Salts of the Earth to anyone with respiratory issues.”

Skin. It’s the body’s largest organ, and probably the one that brings us the most day-to-day drama. You know those days – the ones when you have an important presentation at work, and you wake up with Mt Everest on your forehead?

The best you can do is take good care of yourself. There’s all the regular stuff – eight glasses of water a day, removing make-up before sleeping, using organic skin products – but what about the other stuff? Are there any secrets you might be missing? Have a look at this list, and you might be inspired to conquer Mt Everest (to be clear, we mean the odd pimple on your forehead. Actually climbing Mt Everest will take expertise we do not have. And probably will be a bit rough on your skin. Anyway…)

5 unusual tips for skin health.

1. Keep your hands off.
This isn’t just in regard to fighting the temptation to squeeze pimples (yes, yes, we all know it leaves scars… but it’s just so satisfying!). Keeping your hands away from your face during the day will guarantee to keep your skin cleaner and more clear. Bacteria, dirt, allergens… your hands will transfer all kinds of nasties to your vulnerable face pores. So, no more leaning your chin on your hand, and definitely no more picking at your face when you’re sitting idly. Leave it alone. No touchies.

2. No more long, hot showers.
Despite the fact that it’s a bit rude to the environment, nothing beats a long, hot shower or bath. But if you want to keep your skin glowing, they’ve gotta go. Hot water strips oils from the skin, which ages the skin faster. So turn off the taps. At the very least, you’ll be saving your skin, if not the planet.

3. Vitamin C.
Did you think Vitamin C tablets were only good for colds and flus? Think again. Vitamin C helps boost healthy collagen in the skin, reduce the appearance of brown spots and sun damage, and reduce inflammation and irritation. Also, it tastes like an orange lolly. Why not?!

4. Flip over.
Hanging your head upside-down is widely thought to bring benefits to facial skin, by increasing blood circulation to the face. Even better – do a yoga class. There’s a reason everyone looks floaty and glowing when they’ve committed to yoga. Not only will you get a healthy glow to your face, you’ll be nice and bendy too.

So there you have it. Four unexpected tips to help preserve that gorgeous face of yours. Show it some love. You both deserve it.

Salt and vinegar chips. Salted caramel. Salt and pepper calamari.

There are so many delicious foods that involve salt, and yet we have been taught to avoid it, with health-nuts striving to cut sodium out of their diet altogether. In some ways, this is a good idea; table salt (which is 97% chemically produced Sodium Chloride, and 3% tables. Just kidding. But not about the chemically produced 97%…) is definitely not good for the ol’ body. It’s bleached, devoid of all nutrients, and the scary truth is; if you put a saltwater fish in a tank of fresh water mixed with table salt, they will die. And not from out of sheer pleasure. Table salt = bad news.

But here is the good news. You can still eat salt. Just make it GOOD salt.

When table salt was linked to a whole bunch of health problems – heart troubles, kidney problems, stroke – the whole concept of salt got a bad name. But good salt, such as pure Himalayan salt, brings a wealth of essential minerals and nutrients to the body. By using a bit of quality salt in cooking, the necessary sodium levels in the blood stream can be restored, helping with blood pressure, brain function, sleep health, kidney function, irregular heart beat, even cellulite.

CELLULITE, PEOPLE. After all these years of thinking we had to cut out salt to get rid of thigh dimples, it turns out, we might actually need to cut it back in.

Himalayan salt is the purest, most beneficial salt available, forming crystals for 200 million years in the Himalayan ranges. Sound like a treasure from a Disney movie? It sure does. And when you consider the 84 minerals available in a teaspoon of the Himalayan salt, you’ll know why.

So next time you’re standing over the stove, think about adding a pinch of salt. But leave the table salt in the cupboard. The laundry cupboard. Use it for cleaning and scrubbing, because that’s about all it’s good for. Instead, reach for a delicious sprinkle of Himalayan salt, and let your body absorb 200 million years of good health.

Salty high-five.

Skin conditions. They can go much deeper than the surface of the skin. They can affect our hearts. Not in a literal sense, but in an emotional one. Sufferers of eczema and other similar conditions will know that living with constantly itchy, red skin can bring a good dose of emotional turmoil as well.

It’s a vicious circle, really. We’ve all heard that stress can make eczema worse. But once your eczema has flared up, it can bring emotional stress. And then the stress of the eczema can bring on more eczema, and so on, until you’re just not in the mood to leave the house for a while.

So, what can you do?

Sufferers of eczema are finding relief when they include salt therapy in their regime. Salt therapy involves sitting in a comfortable chair in a relaxing room (doesn’t sound too bad, right?) while pharmaceutical grade salt gets pumped through the air. Natural salt has many properties that can assist in the relief of skin conditions. It can help improve the good bacteria on the skin, aiding the natural protective properties. It helps to balance the Ph levels.

Rachel from Hampton in Victoria shares her experience with salt therapy: “Having suffered with Eczema for over 30 years, my skin is always dry and irritated. After using the magnesium spray and having salt sessions twice a week, my skin is now the best it has ever been. I started using salt therapy with my 2 daughters for breathing issues, coughs, blocked noses etc. After 2 weeks (2 sessions a week), they are both sleeping so much better, and breathing has eased. I recommend salt therapy to everyone I speak to.”

Salts Of The Earth can also provide pharmaceutical grade salt for bathing at home. Combined with regular salt therapy, salt bathing can help relieve the skin. Plus, you have an excuse to light a few candles and enjoy a nice soak in the tub.

If you want to get back to living your life without having to worry about exacerbating your eczema, then give salt therapy a try. Some relaxing sessions at a Salt Therapy centre may not only help relieve your skin symptoms, it can take away some of your stress, too.

Give yourself and your skin the treat you deserve. Go get salty.

Do you remember how your Grandma used to always recommend a ‘good dose of ocean air’ when you had a cold? That old wives’ tale t that salty air can clear the airways is not just an old tale. It’s the truth. Regular salt therapy sessions have an anti-inflammatory effect on swelling in the respiratory tract, and assist to break up mucous and toxins, creating more room for inhaling oxygen. Important, right? Right.

By breaking down the phlegm and build-up in the lungs, salt therapy brings a range of healthy, glow-y benefits, which the regulars will attest to (INSERT LINK). Are you a sports player? Improved breathing means improved performance. Does your partner keep you awake with snoring? Get them into salt therapy sessions. Allergies or asthma? Just like a concentrated dose of ocean air, salt therapy can assist respiratory conditions in a safe, organic, non-invasive way.

Not only is it great for the airways , salt does wonders for the skin as well. The dry salt aerosol particles that are pumped into the salt therapy room can assist with a range of skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema. The anti-inflamatory properties of the salt helps to cleanse the skin and reduce irritation, making it less susceptible to itchiness and infection.

With regular salt therapy sessions, you will discover a healthier, stronger you. Clients have found they are sleeping better, breathing better during exercise, have improved stress levels and overall improvement in their health, and showing off radiant, glowing skin.

And if you don’t believe us, ask some of the clients who have tried. From Megan Gale to Zoe Foster-Blake to high-profile athletes, everyone is singing the praises of salt.

Find yourself a salt therapy session today. It’s only natural.
