New year, new you? We’ve all been there. And there’s one place we all know that leads: sore muscles.

Whether it’s a 2017 resolution you’re actually sticking to (how do you do that?! Are you a sorcerer?!) or you’ve always been a gym junkie, a bit of relief from those aching muscles is just what you need.

Tart cherries. It sounds like a naughty nickname or a delicious dessert, but it’s neither. Tart cherry extract can be taken by capsule or by juice (if you like the taste) and has had proven effects on reducing muscle soreness. Long words like ‘phytochemical antioxidants’ are the reason behind this, but we won’t bore you. Get some tart cherry capsules to reduce muscle inflammation. Warning: cherry tarts, however, will not have the same effect. Dammit.

Salt Therapy. This is especially great for regular gym-goers. All you have to do is sit in a comfy massage chair in one of the salt therapy centers (or you can squat or plank, if you prefer…) and let the salty air do the rest. Pharmaceutical-grade salt is pumped through the air and the tiny salt particles may help reduce congestion and improve oxygen uptake, to assist with your recovery.

Coffee. According to Men’s Fitness magazine, if you drink a coffee – even two coffees, if your bladder can handle it – before your workout, muscles soreness and fatigue can be reduced by up to half. We wouldn’t recommend it before a slow yoga class though – you’ll be bouncing off the walls. Namaste.

So, if you’re pushing your body through some manic gym routine this year, make sure you treat it to some quality recovery time. But first, drop and gimme twenty, tiger.

Wait, what? That’s right, salt. Salt therapy is right up there on the Rio To-Do List, as some of our country’s top athletes have discovered.

But don’t worry – you don’t have to be a gold medal-winner to reap the benefits.

For those not in the inner circle (or inner Olympic rings, perhaps), salt therapy is a rehabilitating, natural and drug-free therapy, used to aid sports recovery and improve function. It involves sitting in a comfy massage chair, listening to relaxing music, while breathing in pharmaceutical-grade salt pumped through the air. Sounds MUCH easier than a marathon.

Members of the Australian Swim Team for the Rio Olympics, Josh Beaver and Belinda Hocking, have been visiting our salt rooms to prepare their bodies for the games. It helps them to recover quickly and ultimately perform better by opening up their airways and increasing their oxygen intake. It also helps keep their bodies healthy, giving them a gold medal winning edge.

Just ask some of the top sports players in the country, AFL stars Luke Hodge, Nathan Jones and Trent Cotchin. The three football captains are just some of the many elite athletes who have come for salt therapy sessions at Salts Of The Earth. Luke Hodge spoke to Channel 7’s Sunrise about the therapy. “I first started about three years ago as a great way to recover. We push ourselves to the nth degree with games… after you come in here, you just breathe a lot better, and how you sleep that night is sensational.”

Got that, athletes? If you are training hard, you need to be recovering hard. Take a hint from the pros, and book yourself into a salt therapy session today. After all, you want to be in the best possible shape for those Olympic games… the country is depending on you.

“I started salt therapy to help with my recovery after soccer games and training. As a competitive sports player, I’m always looking for a way to improve my performance.

I could not believe how much quicker my body recovered after rigorous training and how much it has improved my breathing.

I have so much more energy which has helped improve my performance. All in all, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend if you’re active every day or want to improve your lung capacity. The service was extremely attentive and effective. I am a believer!”

Daniel

Salt therapy can assist sports performance and recovery through helping facilitate a cleaner respiratory system. It does this by assisting the body’s natural ability to clear mucus, congestion and inflammation from the lungs and airways. A cleaner respiratory system helps you to breathe better and increase oxygen intake, both vital for sports performance.

In addition to a cleaner respiratory system, we find many of our clients report having a great night’s sleep on the day of their salt therapy sessions, similar to many of our clients who report reduced snoring and a more restful sleep. Improving your sleep can be one of the best ways to assist your body to recover and repair naturally so that you are ready for your next big game!

Salt therapy is a complementary therapy and is intended to be used alongside conventional medical treatment. Results may vary between clients and we recommend you discuss the use of salt therapy with your GP.
