According to the Australian Health Survey, about a third of adults don’t meet their magnesium requirement from the foods they eat (older teenagers are particularly likely to run short of magnesium). This is an issue as magnesium is an essential mineral for healthy bodily function.

Magnesium is a mineral needed by every cell of your body and is required for every major biological process. This includes the production of cellular energy and synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady and bones strong. For these reasons magnesium oil has numerous benefits to our health. Here are just some examples of how your body could experience the benefits:

Soothe joints, muscles, aches and pains: Magnesium is essential for proper muscle function and acts to relieve tight, sore and cramped muscles. It controls muscle and acts as a muscle relaxant. It can therefore be vital in the relief of muscle and joint pain and crampsby relaxing back muscles, kidney stress and muscular tension.

Promotes a good night’s sleep: Magnesium’s natural muscle relaxant characteristics are part of what makes it such a great help for sleep. Due to magnesium’s ability to relax GABA receptors in the brain and nervous system, magnesium oil is a great help to people struggling to fall asleep.

Boosts energy: Magnesium promotes the activation of enzymes which produce cellular energy. By activating adenosine triphosphate, also known as ATP, magnesium boosts energy and helps prevent feelings of fatigue.

Relieves headaches and migraines: When applied topically, a healthy level of magnesium can help relieve nerve pain and alleviate dull, aching chronic pain. This is because magnesium affects neurotransmitter function and blood circulation, and thus helps to relieve migraines by releasing pain-reducing hormones and reducing the constriction of blood vessels that causes an increase in blood pressure.

Helps to keep bones strong and healthy: Magnesium benefits bones as it is essential for good bone health and influences the bone cells that are essential in building healthy bone density. Magnesium also regulates calcium and vitamin D levels which are important in bone health.

Elevates cramps: Magnesium is regarded as a natural relaxant. If you have bad cramping, be it muscular or painful menstrual cramps, magnesium oil can help to ease uncomfortable pain.

Improve skin: Applying magnesium oil to the skin can help reduce oil production of the sebum, which makes this “oil” a standout for those dealing with chronic acne and breakouts. It also acts as a humectant, keeping the skin hydrated.

Promotes a healthy heart: Magnesium is important for absorbing potassium and calcium in the body, healthy magnesium levels are necessary for preventive heart health.

Relieves stress and anxiety: Magnesium is essential for regulating certain hormones that help calm the brain and promote relaxation. This includes gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) that helps to reduce anxiety.

Controls bladder and bowl functions: Magnesium can bring relief to people suffering from bladder problems such as cystitis, where bladder control can be an issue whether it is frequently feeling the urge to urinate or problems spotting throughout the day. Magnesium is known to have laxative properties, having water absorbent properties which soften stool and help bowel movements to pass more easily. In addition, magnesium relaxes the intestinal muscles which assist in establishing a smoother rhythm for passing bowels and eases constipation.

Calms nerves and eases anxiety: Magnesium is essential for regulating certain hormones that help calm the brain and promote relaxation. This includes gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) that helps to reduce anxiety.

If you want to give magnesium oil a go, click here to buy your own Salts of the Earth Magnesium Oil Spray online. Your muscles, skin and joints will love you for it.

It seems like every home you go into these days has a salt lamp. This is because they have an abundance of great benefits for your health. Even if you aren’t interested in holistic approaches to health or wellbeing, the undoubtable power of salt lamps is very interesting.

Salt is a natural mineral that can generate small amounts of negative ions (oxygen atoms that are charged with an extra electron). Studies have shown that in high concentrations these negative ions can have positive impacts on the mind and body. Salt rock can also help cleanse the air by attracting the water molecules from the atmosphere around it, including any particles. As the salt lamp heats up, the water is released back into the air, but the particles are trapped. Effectively, cleaning the air of dust, pollen, smoke particles, animal dander and other allergens. Everyone will appreciate cleaner air, but none more so than hay fever sufferers.

Here are 5 other benefits for owning a salt lamp:

Purify the air

Probably the most well-known benefit and why the majority of people use them, is due to their ability to remove dust, pollen, cigarette smoke, and other contaminants from the air. How I hear you saying… Salt lamps purify the air by attracting water molecules and absorbing them, along with any other contaminants the water molecules may be carrying, into the salt crystal. As the lamp heats up when it’s on, the same water is thought to evaporate back into the surrounding environment without all the contaminants. How cool is that!

Increased energy levels

Taking a drive through the countryside with the windows down, spending time at the beach or camping in the mountains, or simply taking a shower first thing in the morning are all things that many people find invigorating. Why you ask… it’s because your body has been exposed to more negative ions, the same negative ions a salt lamp emits. By flicking the switch on a salt lamp in your living room or bedroom, you should start to feel less tired, stressed and lethargic.

Defuse the digital haze

We are all glued to our devises such as phones, televisions, laptops and tablets these days. But did you know they produce electromagnetic radiation (EM), which can have long term negative effects on our health. Constant exposure to EM radiation is known to increase stress levels, cause chronic fatigue, and decrease the body’s immune response. Salt lamps can neutralize some of this radiation if you position it close to your digital devices. So best to get one for your home and office!

Boost your sleep

With the fast paced lives we now lead, we all need to make sure we are having a good night’s sleep. The negative ions produced by salt lamps are thought to increase the flow of oxygen to the brain, and the soft light they emanate are conducive to relaxation and regulating your natural body clock. For parents they are a great addition to a baby’s room and the perfect night light.

Asthma and allergy symptoms relief

As all our Salts of the Earth clients know, salt is amazing for the respiratory system. In conjunction with regular salt therapy, salt lamps may also help clear mucus, reduce dryness and inflammation of the airways and sinuses. Because Himalayan salt lamps remove microscopic particles of dust, pet dander, mould, mildew and the like from the surrounding air, placing a lamp or two in the rooms where you spend the most time can help reduce allergy symptoms. Even people who suffer from asthma may notice a big difference after a week or two.

Salt lamps, with their warm, soft light, create a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere in our living spaces, seemingly bringing the serenity of nature indoors. Custom Neon Signs offer a completely different kind of atmosphere-setter. With their bright, vibrant, and varied colors and unique shapes, custom neon signs are often used to create vibrant, stylish, and even artistic environments. For example, in creative studios or trendy bars, the flickering glow of neon signs becomes a focal point, drawing attention. The appropriate combination of neon signs and salt lamps can create both an attractive and stylish look and a relaxing atmosphere.

Put on your spectacles and your thinking caps, people. You may be about to learn something.

Epsom salt is NOT ACTUALLY A SALT.

That’s right. That white salt stuff that you’ve heard so much about is not a salt at all. It’s magnesium sulfate, with no sodium. But nevertheless, it’s amazing stuff.

Long known as a natural remedy, Epsom salt is named for a salt spring in Surrey, England. Both magnesium and sulfate can be absorbed through the skin, meaning a warm bath in dissolved Epsom salt can bring a wealth of benefits.

Why we love Epsom salt:

The magnificent magnesium.

Magnesium is a clever little mineral that gets an A+ for all of its hard work, like assisting in muscle and nerve function, regulating blood sugar and blood pressure levels, and making protein, bone and DNA. And when you’re stressed, your magnesium levels can drop. A soak in a hot bath with a few scoops of Epsom salt can not only raise your magnesium levels, it can wash your stress away.

Relieves aches and pains.

Epsom salt can help relieve pain and inflammation in tired joints. Are your feet a bit achey and sad? Fill a tub with warm water and Epsom salt and give them a well-deserved break. Then give them a good rub, paint your toenails a pretty shade, and you’ll feel like a brand new person.

Better bowel function.

Believe it or not, a couple of teaspoons of Epsom salt can help relieve constipation and assist bowel function. Knock back 2-4 teaspoons dissolved in water and you should have relief in 30 min to six hours. However: always talk to your doctor first. They LOVE a good chat about your bowel movements.

Beautiful, glowing skin.

A natural, low-priced exfoliant? Yes please. Mix a bit of Epsom salt into your favourite skin cleanser to give yourself an effective face scrub, massaging it into your skin in circular motions (and then rinsing clean). Or mix it with a body wash and use it as an exfoliating body scrub in the shower. Your skin will be softer than a kitten on a fairy floss cloud.

So even though its name is a lie (maybe ‘Epsom Magnesium Sulfate’ was too much of a mouthful), get yourself a dose of Epsom salt soon. You’ll be glowing with health.

If you interested in finding therapeutic salts that can relieve you from pain in your joints and muscles , click here to buy from our range of therapeutic salts. Your muscles, skin and joints will love you for it.

Okay. Hard thinking time is over. You can remove your cap now.

Salt has gotten a bad wrap over the years. According to a lot of diet ‘experts’, salt will not only make you fat, but it will also kick you in the shins, burn down your house, and RUIN YOUR LIFE.

Well, great news, friends. Salt ain’t that bad at all. In fact, not only does salt have a variety of health benefits, but a certain level of it is necessary for human bodies to function.

Let’s chat about it, shall we?

Salt aids blood-sugar control.

A healthy level of sodium in the diet is required to maintain insulin levels. Those cutting out salt completely have been found to be more susceptible to diabetes and other health issues.

Salt improves sleep quality.

If you’ve ever had a few sleepless nights in a row, you’ll be well aware of how important sleep is to good health. Salt in the diet can surpress stress hormones, improving the quality of sleep, while regular salt therapy can help the lung and circulatory systems function better, creating deeper and more beneficial sleeping patterns.

Salt lowers adrenalin.

Sure, we all love a good adrenalin rush. But adrenalin is actually a stress hormone, so there certainly can be too much of a good thing. A low-sodium diet can lead to increased adrenalin, which then leads to poor sleep and ill health. A healthy amount of sodium helps keep the adrenal gland in check.

Salt can improve skin conditions.

Regular salt therapy (such as at Salts of the Earth) can aid in the relief of symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. The natural properties of the salty air help to reduce inflammation and relieve itchiness, dryness, flaki ness, and other symptoms.

Salt helps balance your belly.

Your body needs a certain amount of salt in the stomach acid to aid with digestion of food. Too much can lead to bloating and water retention, of course, but cutting salt out all together can also lead to digestive issues.
So, when it comes to salt, think of Goldilocks and the three bears. Not too much, not too little – juuuust the right amount of salt.

Grab a pinch of salt and put it on your next meal!

To reap the benefits of these homeopathic lamps, place one in close proximity to where you spend a lot of time. And don’t forget that pairing electronics with salt lamps is said to help mitigate the electromagnetic radiation that diffuses through your home. Consider placing a Himalayan salt lamp on your TV stand or in the kitchen.

Other key areas in the home are on a side table next to the sofa (where you spend a lot of time watching TV), on your nightstand (right next to the bed, hopefully catching some z’s), near a designated homework area (kids can get the benefits, too), or on the desk of your home office (concentrate on that work!).

The earthiness of Himalayan salt lamps lends them perfectly to Zen, nature-driven styles, like bohemian, global, and eclectic—and salt lamps often become simply a decorative accent. However, you don’t need to have a bohemian or eclectic style to decorate with salt lamps. These pretty pink lights are eye-catching, while still being petite in size, so they’ll work into nearly any decor style. Plus they play off of the geode trend that is hot in home decor right now. We love the idea of placing a salt lamp on a bookshelf (not plugged in) as accent decor.

Think outside of the home, too. You’ll often find Himalayan salt lamps in offices, most frequently on individual desks, especially in open-concept environments. If you’ve been feeling less-than-productive at work, try adding a salt lamp to your desk!

Salt is for so much more than roast potatoes (and pasta dishes and peanuts and pizzas and salted caramel tarts and mmmmmmm…. wait, what were we talking about?). It’s also an excellent household cleaner. Salt is a natural antibacterial and has been used for cleaning since the medieval times!

Household uses for salt

Clean your sink drains
Salt and vinegar is more than just a delicious chip flavour. A bit of salt, some hot water and a dash of white vinegar down the drain can break down grease, food and bad smells.

Ants in your pants
Got an ant plague going on in the house? Pour some salt along the windowsills, doorways, or anywhere else the ants are sneaking in. It’s a chemical-free way to deter the little creeps.

Dirty coffee cups
Mix salt with dish soap and scrub tea and coffee stains on cups. Also, stop leaving dirty coffee cups around the house, you filthy layabout.

Red, red wiiiiiiine
If you’re drinking red and wearing white, you can guarantee you’ll spill it, right? (Accidental rhyme, soz) For red wine on a white tablecloth or clothing, soak up as much as possible with paper towels or a sponge, and then immediately cover with a pile of salt. The salt will help draw the stain away. Later, soak the tablecloth in cold water before washing.

Revitalise a wooden copping board
If you use a wooden cutting board, you can sanitise it the natural way using Himalayan rock salt or our pharmaceutical grade salt. Simply sprinkle salt all over the board, use a lemon (cut in half, cut side down) and give the board a good scrub. Leave it for five minutes, then give it a good rinse. Sparkling and good as new!

Stinky shoes
We can smell your sneakers from here (just kidding, you smell like a summer meadow). But if your kids/partner/yours-but-you’re-embarrassed-to-admit-it shoes are stinking out the house, sprinkle a little salt in them and sit them outdoors for a day. But remember: tap the salt out before you put them on.

Go on. Start salting your house, NOW.

Whether it’s a particular concoction of tablets, or avoiding the outdoors altogether, the sneeziest people are almost superstitious about their routines. And why wouldn’t they be? Spring season brings a wealth of new allergens with it, which for some, means months of sniffly, sneezy, sinus torture.
But perhaps there’s something they haven’t tried.
Salt lamps.

That’s right, salt lamps aren’t just for hippies anymore. In fact, the popularity of salt lamps is exploding. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing in the right décor (think ‘scandinavian simplicity’ rather than ‘new-age witchcraft crystal shop’…), they actually manage to clean the air around them, bringing great benefits to sufferers of hay fever.
It all sounds a bit sci-fi, but the salt rock manages to clean the air by attracting the water molecules from the atmosphere around it, including any particles. As the salt lamp heats up, the water is released back into the air, but the particles are trapped.

Effectively, the clever little salt lamp is cleaning the air of dust, pollen, smoke particles, animal dander and other allergens. Any human body will appreciate cleaner air, but none more so than hay fever sufferers. Less pollen = less sneezing.
By placing a lamp or two in the rooms used most, sufferers may find an improvement in their hay fever symptoms at home in just a couple of weeks. If combined with regular salt therapy, there may be a significant reduction in symptoms such as itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing and coughing.
If you or your loved ones suffer from hay fever, sneak a salt lamp into the bedroom or living room, or even the office. Cleaner air means cleaner airways. And a salty sinus? What a relief.
